The exploration of the versatile medium of pastel. With pure pigment, pastels create painterly images through drawing techniques. This class focuses on mark-making practices and pastel painting fundamentals as well as advanced methods.

           Course material is an introduction to drawing as the fundamental building block to fine art through understanding the key elements to composition, value, form, and perspective. A variety of projects focus the student on the elements of contour, value, texture, composition, perspective as well as the principles of light and shade and how line helps to reveal form. Students draw from observation, exploring a variety of materials and techniques to cultivate their skills to accurately render that which is observed.

  • Provide students with a technical and creative understanding of Fundamentals of Drawing I.
  • Teach the tools and materials associated with all drawing techniques.
  • Educate on studio safety and studio practices.
  • Introduce historical references to artists and their art to the relevancy to today's art.
  • Plan a curriculum outline that communicates course information so that each student, whatever their level, can gain the necessary training to move forward to Drawing II.

These workshops worked with young adults and adults. It is among many I have taught in a continuing education environment. It cultivated their individual voice through the written word and a personal vision in various art mediums including painting, drawing, and collage. Emphasize the connection between creative ideas and document their voyage. Creative writing through prompts, doodling, notation, planning, and visualization lead them through this exploration.

  • Organize class curriculum to meet the needs of a variety of age groups.
  • Incorporate a variety of techniques and materials to stimulate a wide range of interests.
  • Keep accurate records of the results and reactions to my workshops.
